Line from filter to IP leaking....still

So, I think the line must have an inherent problem on my truck. I have replaced the olives 3 times now, as well as the o-ring on the fitting into the IP.

I am still dripping fuel off the fuel line. From all I can tell, it is and has been leaking at the olive going into the IP. I have replaced it like I said,3 times, and it is still leaking.

I know Mel makes a nice line the replaces all that olive garbage. I am thinking of going that route unless I can figure out what fittings are needed to build my own. Any of you guys done this?

your best bet is to either make your own, or buy the one Mel has
i have some steel braided hoses and some AN fittings i will be using when i do my filter swap.
but i havnt decided if i want to relocate it or not,,, yet..
i would 86 that line, you know what they say... 3rd times a charm...

I am not real familiar with AN fittings. Any ideas on which fittings I would need to use some AN fittings and braided line? Mel makes a great product, but I would like to get this fixed and not have to wait, ya know!

Im just not familiar with the terminology they use.

I made one from 3/8" rubber fuel line. Used a 45 degree brass barb outlet off the filter head. On the IP it is a #5 O Ring Boss fitting to a 90 degree 3/8" brass barb. This is the ORB fitting and where I ordered it from:

If you Google "O Ring Boss Oilburners" there's some more related threads. I con't find the exact one where I gleaned my info, but it was a post from Gary and someone he'd worked with to figure out the ORB fitting.

Gotta order parts still. But it was inexpensive and simple. IDI style

I can tell you typ4 aka Russ knows the fitting sizes. What I can tell you is the threads in the back of the injection pump are 1/2 by 20 national fine machine threads. The o ring seals that fitting. Russ has plenty of these AN fittings too. Or find any hydraulic hose shop. Take both fittings from the filter to the injection pump and tell them you want 2 fittings to replace these. Any hydraulic repair shop will be good for these fittings. Make sure the rubber hose from the filter to the pump is correct. Otherwise it can break down and plug up the screen in the pump.

Hard lines are a pain in the ass!

If you havnt yet:

You want to make sure that line will naturally sit aligned with the fitting it goes into on the IP. If it naturally lays "misaligned" when tightened at the filter, you want to manipulate the line to be lined up with the IP fitting as perfect as you can without any tension on the line. Having tension on the line in a specific direction can contribute-to/cause leakage.

Also where the rubber rings/seals go on the lines/fittings clean all that up really good with a very fine piece of sand paper. Pits can set in over time and contribute to sealing issues! ---my money is on pits/imperfections on the line there! check your orings VERYGOOD 3 times, the slightest crack/cut can give you the worst of headaches and can be hard to spot.

2 pennies, they aren't worth to much, but maybe they'll help! good luck!

Well, the fancy Moose feed line is on its way! As always, Conestoga and Mel was a pleasure to deal with this morning.

Line is here and installed. I haven't taken it for. A drive yet as we have been watching some friends kids. It's a madhouse with ur 3 and their 2. Slipped out and installed it during nap time!

This is a really nice piece. The quality is as you would expect it to be. It comes with the braided line, that according to Mel, is some kind of super long lasting braided hose. 10 year rating he said, which is where most of the cost is incurred. Nice AN fittings crimped on each end. It also comes with the correct adapter for each end. One into the filter head and the correct adapter and new o-ring into the IP.

One final thought on this line. Could it be sourced out piece by piece and made by me? Absolutely.

Was it much easier to make one call and have everything I needed show up 2 days later? Absolutely.

Thanks for the update. Your pics are great too. Nothing like a modification piece that fits the first time. Very handsome looking piece too. Mel will even make a custom line if you give him the demensions. I see you have the bleeder return line from the filter to the return line system. I noticed its the smaller 3/16 line by the rd color clamps. Also noticed the heater modification in the filter head. Nice to not have the leaky heaters in the filter any longer. They really never did do anything that we could determine was helping start or run our engines. And having the heater on top instead of the bottom of the fuel seems backwards. After all we put a pot on top of the stove flame. Not put the heat on top of the pot. The psd engineers installed the heaters on the bottom of the filter cans. The 6.9 idi had the filter in the filter from lift pump feed line to the filter. It was the fat looking piece of line wrapped around the line. Some had no idea what that was with the wire feeding electrical power to it.
