Is this worth 3000?????

Hey guys, I am happy to have joined such an awesome site!!!! Anyways, I am looking at getting a 1986 f-250 single cab, Lariat, long bed 7.3l idi. It is in excellent condition (body,Interior) and Has a Banks turbo on it and the Gear vendors over dirve. Its got 200000 miles and brad new tires on it. It is not 4x4. for 3000 I think its a good deal, What do you think???

$3000 is the high end of what I'd pay for a single cab 2WD. the OD unit and turbo are worth something and if the truck is super clean with no leaks it may be worth it but i'd bet you could find more truck for your money if you looked around.

i'd offer him $2300-$2500

Thanks 69oiler I was going to ask him to go down on the price until he told me I could not buy the truck until he felt that It was ready to go. He is going to replace all the glow plugs and have the oil changed it the od and have the whold truck gone through by a mechanic. I should have it by tuesday.

It came with a 6.9, which is the better engine (no cavitation issues) so if it has the 7.3 then find out when it was installed to get an idea of how many miles are on it.

It must be a 6.9 then because he didnt say it had a new or different motor in it. I was wondering which motor (6.9 or 7.3) was better because I thought he said it was a 6.9. His Grandson ( who does not know diesels) sad it was a 7.3 but I think he is wrong. Can I get as much hp out of the 6.9??? I am new to the diesel scene.... I know I dont want a powerstroke though lol

Chelsea, sounds like a good deal if it is that clean. 6.9 will last a long time, you may need a rocker arm upgrade sometime but it is easy to do.
your dads name isnt Steve by any chance is it?

You probably wouldn't notice any difference in power between the two. I'm running a 7.3 now, but have a spare 6.9 that I'll be building up if I ever need it. You may want to upgrade the glowplug controller to the 7.3 style or go manual. There are some other upgrades you can do to to make it more reliable, rocker arms and such.

New tires are worth at least $500, if you are to install the Gear Vendors yourself it will be at least $1000. Turbo kit is about a grand too (which is why I still ain't got one). Suspension and body work to bring an old work truck to very good condition ain't cheap unless you do it all yourself... My truck has about 200k on it, poor thing was a farm vehicle most of its life, but it still hauls everything I throw at it. Offer him $2500, then work up from there.

My dads name is not steve, BUT The person I am getting the truck from, His son in laws name is steve, he owns a auto shop down in Ridgecrest. He also races in NHRA, you might know him...

What kinda hp do you think I am getting out of this 6.9 w/ a turbo?? I know it wont be percise without a DYNO but I am just wondering??? Also, I was going to straight pipe the exhaust but herd this is very loud on these idi's. What type of exhuast should I get????

Straight exaust is loud on non-turbo trucks (I've been told mine can be heard coming from over a block away), but you got the Banks so you can go straight and be quite mellow. How much power you got depends on how much boost you're making, but a turbo is advertised to give up to 50% increase, so that would be about 250hp or so?
