You got yourself one of them new high tech air conditioned blocks. Keeps the oil cooler like that.

But really, wow, any idea it was going to do that before it let go and windowed the block?

No, I don't think that's quite normal. I don't believe the block and oil pan are supposed to have random holes in them.

The pan looks kind of like somebody went at it with a can opener. Any idea what happened? It looks a bit like things came loose inside and started rattling around.:dunno

I was driving to an interview one morning and on the freeway going 75 and it started smoking. I thought oh $£|# I should pullover. Just then a nice rattle from under the hood and she died. So I coasted off the freeway and got a ride to the interview. 5 months later I've finally got around to taking it apart.

Don't look normal to me. No oil in the pan, must have leaked out thru that hole. I think those rods should be connected to some pissons. That starter cable connection looks OK tho.

Lower level road draft setup. Did it have oil? Rod bolt break?

I see a bunch of silicone on the oil cooler gaskets, that is an absolute no-no, likely started puking while driving and you never knew it in time to catch it.
That journal was starved for oil , then siezed, broke the piston and you see the results.

not pretty. very sad.

I'm seeing what Ruus is seeing but I'll bet the rod bearing spun. then heat started building in the crank journel and rod by the looks of the metal color change. Sadly there isn't much left to salvage on that engine. Sad ending to a great well built engine too.
Also whats the disc hanging of the oil filter adapter. Looks like maybe its the bypass valve.
