intake and exhaust mods

I wanted to ask to see what the best way to get the motor to breathe with an intake and an exhaust. Is An exhaust y pipe back 3 inch and a straight pipe worthy also are there any intake mods like the 6637 in a psd? I read a lot about the soup bowl mod fact or fiction lol?

Soup bowl mod worked for me....my first truck would lose speed going up hill...done the soup bowl mod and could gain speed up hill....

Its easy...pull the lid off the breather flip it over and cut the bowl off for better air flow....if it don't have it then the bottom of the breather has a small opening... search for it on here cause somebody else may explain it better

A warning tho.... if you're expecting a 20 hp kick-in-the-pants improvement you will likely be sadly disappointed... I did all I could do to my truck prior to adding a turbo. Soup bowl, free-er flowing y-pipe that I cobbled together, 3-1/2" exhaust with straight thru muffler, Hypermax cowl induction, AFE Dryflow air filter......................Nothing, but nothing, even came close to adding the performance of a turbo.

One more word to the OP: Sir, please make up a signature with the details of your truck. Also: a little punctuation never hurt anyone.

It's wonderful... off topic to IDI, but I can disable the VGT turbo via upfitter switch on the compound turbos in the 6.4 and feel the difference between N/A and turbo. Same change with the SRT4 I used to drag race... tiny stock turbo came out, put in a GT3076R and good effin lordy!! Used to open the sunroof cover launching off the line...

A good point, however, would be to invest in the turbo FIRST before wasting money on parts that won't work with the turbo kit.

Mine didn't ever have a soup bowl or restrictor in the bottom of the housing. Adding a nice 3 inch exhaust didn't help any either. IMO a turbo is the only way to go.

thank you for all of the replies. Since this is a work truck it sounds like I should possibly leave it the way that it is stock? If I did do a straight pipe and the soup bowl modification would that help the engine stay cooler since it will be towing a trailer and mainly be used for snow plowing? Another thing I was debating is gauges should I get a pyro and a trans gauge?

Remove the soup bowl go with 3inch exhaust pipe. And Yes get a pyrometer.

It may go without saying but having a truck that's tuned up in good running order is a world of difference if say you had two or three weak injectors and don't know it. I tuned up a friends farm truck that had a reman inj pump, put four injectors in it turned the fuel up slightly not big smoke blowing turned up, adjusted the throttle position sensor back to where it should be, put a 3" exhaust on it and a new stock fuel transfer pump. He was extremely satisfied. As the slow degration of factory parts he didn't notice it until compared to after with good parts back on it. Not saying it was fast or anything just a lot more pleasant to drive.

Order online like from Jegs or summit some members use 94-97 powerstroke systems
