NO. I believe the caps were changed in preperation for horsepower upgrades that never came thanks to the PSD. I vastly prefer the 6.9 style caps, and use them on my 7.3. The fact that the 7.3 caps are offset, makes them more likely to move in response to hoses swelling or shrinking, which in turn moves the caps on the O-rings, and we all know what happens then. The diameter difference provides no additional functionality other than the hoses are bigger (consequently stiffer), adding to the difficulty of using them.
