I have a 86 F-250 6.9L and i think the IP is about to die. It idles high and once it gets warmed it if you just tap the gas and let go it stays revved up for 4-5 seconds. I was driving it like this and then it started dieing on me while i was driving. It was just like the motor would slowly die out till it completely shut off. What i was wondering is if i should take it to a mechanic to have the pump replaced or if this is something i could do myself with a little help, because I'm still pretty new to diesels. Someone on dieselbombers.com suggested posting here because he said there might be someone near me, i live in the Kings Island area of Ohio, might be able to help me swap the pumps and time it.

and then advance the timing a touch. or you can just skip to advancing it a touch from the get go. I advanced mine two dimes widths from the static timing marks. at that setting i get a slight haze of balck smoke under moderate acceleration. my mpg and power has gone up also!
