Well i ended up swapping pumps with one from a junkyard. It took me a little while to figure out to bleed the fuel system but after that it ran great!... for about a week.... and then it just wouldn't start. But i figured out that there is a rubber hose about 8-10 inches long going from the main fuel line to the fuel pump that had a inch wide gash all the way through. So i bought a new pump, why not while im at it, and a new hose. The problem is im having trouble getting the new pump on right. I cant figure out how the cam needs to be. Any advice?

Surely you didn't remove the gear tower for the IP. If that is what your talking about when referring to the cam. Then the timing can be way off.

No i thought the mechanical pump sat under the cam, im worried about putting the pump on wrong. I didnt remove the timing gear when i swapped pumps. i just unbolted the pump from the timing gear.

Oh, your talking about the lift pump arm under the cam. If it's the straight arm pump, just tilt it up a little and slide it in, it may have a little pressure on it to push down to line up the bolts, if it's the dogleg pump it goes straight in. Does it have bolts or studs for the pump? With studs, put the gasket on first.

Ok the one i have is a dogleg pump i guess, its curved a lil bit. So you dont have to worry about the cam being in the wrong spot?
