Okay to use fuel filter/water separator as pre pump and post pump filter?

I ended up with a surplus of Donaldson fuel filter/water separators that are too tall to mount in the factory location. Since I'm about to convert to an e-pump on the frame rail I was wondering if it's okay to use the same filter before and after the fuel pump? I ask because all the fancy e-pump kits include a fuel/water separator and then just a fuel filter.

If they are the same micron, it won't make a difference. Rule of thumb is put a larger micron upstream, then a finer micron after it. Most engines I work on that have 2 filters, usually its a 20 micron, then either a 10 or 5 after that.
