hey I am new to this forum and am having problems with a 1988 f-350 with a 7.3 in it . I have fuel coming from the machanical pump through the filter to the injector pump but not out to the injectors. There is a new remaned injection pump on the truck. Keep in mind that I have worked on alot of diesel everything. This is a maidine voyage for a ford diesel. thanks workin bob

i would check to see if the solenoid on top of the injection pump is working. you should be able to feel/hear the solenoid click when the key turns on.

its in the top cover of the pump. check to see if it works before taking it apart because there are a few things you need to familiarize yourself with inside that cover.

x2 You should have power there with the key on. If you do, either the selonoid is bad or the pump is bypassing all of the fuel.

Without insulting your experience and intelligence, are you sure that the pump isn't still air locked? That seems to be a big problem with the reman pumps. Sometimes I thought it would never get that thing bled out. How is your cranking speed? You already know about that fuel shutoff solenoid. If you take that governor cover off you really need to be careful as you also probably know, specifically you'll need a secondary way to shut off the engine. FYI you can also use a junkyard FSS from a DB2 from a Chevy or Olds diesel I'm told should that be the issue, that is if you're rebuilder won't take care of it.

Sometimes with a fresh pump it can take a while to bleed all the air out , as in cranking the batteries down dead a couple of times before you have enough fuel at all the injector lines. Have you loosened all the injector line nuts a few turns and cranked it like crazy ( no more than 30 seconds at a time, don't want to fry your starter) till you get fuel squirting out around an injector or two , then tighten those down, and repeat till they all have some or it fires( or the batteries die and you have to recharge them :D

Make sure all the little electric connectors in the wire harness going to the pump are still plugged in to their sensors

As is mentioned above it 'could' be air locked.
Crack open the nuts at the injectors, short 10-15 second crank intervals and let the starter rest/cool in between.
Doing it this way took 6 attempts before mine would bleed.
ALSO to save GP's and battery life...I used a remote starter off the passenger fenderwell...AND...jumped the fuel shut-off solenoid from +battery >pull the socket/wire closest to the bumper for the jump ...>you must hear a click when connection the jumper wire<.
This way the ignition key was off, the engine would crank(no GP burn), and fuel was getting to the IP. I could watch while cranking when the injectors started to spit.

Thank you for replaying to my question.I can hear the soleniod clicking. I have opened all the injector nuts and have taken a line off the injector pump and all I get is a little bit of fuel. I also took the return fuel line off thetop off the injection pump and I have fuel coming not from the pump but from the return line out of the all the injectors( its the line that goes back to the tank). Could it still be air locked? Could the machanical pump be pushing fuel up to the top but once it buildes pressure be stopping do to a cracked diaphram? thanks working bob

All it takes is a little coming from the lines. It only drips at idle. If you have fuel at the inlet, than the lift pump is good...or at least it should be pumping. I suggest you charge the batteries and give it some more crankin'. I bet it fires up.
