IFS swapping

So my bud who likes to burry his truck in 4' snow drift calls me this morning to telll me he has broken the IFS housing drivers side arm near the punkin.
I have one from an 85 F-250, will it work on a 96?

We have to use his gear set and hub assembly since he has the larger hubs as mine does not.
Gonna try to tackle this tonight as we're getting more snow today and it's his plow truck.

If yours has smaller locking hubs I would say no , sounds like yours is Dana 44 his will be Dana 50

Sounds like a 44 vs 50 issue. Might just need to completely swap the axles.

The D 50 pumpkin won't bolt to the D 44 arm. Is it broke so bad that it can't be welded?

I'm pretty sure the arms will work but swapping the spindles to the different steering knuckles to accommodate for the larger hub assemblies is what I'm not too sure about.
I haven't seen the damaged one yet but he doesn't want to fool with welding it right now.

If you need one I have one. I really doubt you're going to make that 44 work. The ball joints are completely different and everything.

From what I've read in my research on converting Bronco front ends, the pivot point of a Dana 50 is farther out than a Dana 44, but I can't confirm if that is true of a 44HD.

Well I've told him to look into finding a D50 to be on the safe side.

He's found a complete front axle for 150 clams but the junkyard guy seemed to think the 44 will work.

I told him that for that price to snag it so we don't get into this thing tonight to find something isn't gonna work.

the dana50 is most deffinitly a different animal from the 44 and you cannot swap the arms...

i ran into that a long time ago when i bought an 85 F250HD that railed a brick church sign at 50mph....

the 50 housing is way heavier then the 44

Yup 50s are a totally different animal.
But here's what one looks like that has failed.

wow, that is wild. id never thought something like that could ever happen. but i always know anything can happen. i dont know if i would try to repair that, but knowing me i would try. but yea the best bet is to replace that. also i wonder if something inside the carrier let go to put enough strain on it to break. but i guess it all depends on how hard he hit that on something (and how many times). good luck on the repair.
