My truck is a 1985 250. I got a steering column out of a 1981 f150. Everything seems to work great all except the Horn. I can have my truck turned off and the horn will work. I start my truck it wont, but I can ground the wire under the horn pad to my keys and it will work. What could be causing this?

Could it be my turn signal switch under the wheel? Because the cam is broken and you got to turn off the turn signal by hand. Shouldn't the wiring be the same? I just want to get my horn working without having to install an aftermarket button or something. I want it to work with the truck on. Thanks I'm a little frustrated with it.

Sounds more like a crossed wire. I suspect where you have "ground" to is hot with ign. on. Or something in the steering column is not grounding correctly to provide the proper path to ground with your ign. on.
