Hood latch cable disconnected.

Evidently the hood latch cable at the latch is disconnected, found it that way before closing the hood, hooked it back up again. Tried to open the hood today and the cable is disconnected again.

HOW DO I OPEN THE HOOD? Anyone know? Without a can opener.

Gotta move the 92 truck, batteries are dead from setting for a long time.

You should be able to stick your hand threw the grill an pull the wire towards the driver finder. Mine broke the other day an that's how I opened it.

Don't think the cable is broke, just disconnected from the latch.

When I bought my current truck it had no latch cable. The PO reached through the grill and pulled the lever. The cover plate that keeps the cable in place was missing. The missing plate made pulling the lever pretty easy. I have since fixed this. I noticed it would be much harder to pull the latch with the retaining plate in place. Do you have another truck you could look at to get a better idea of the mechanics? Good luck.

remove grill,

unbolt the hoodlatch lift hood, unlatch...attache a wire or replace the cable and bolt back into place....simple nuff 10 minute job

Wow... I learned something today... This has never happened to my rig but I hope to never have this happen too. To unload the latch remember it has a spring holding it up against the latch. So slightly push down on the hood to unload the latch spring. Then the lever might pull easier by hand.

No ten minute job, gotta remove the brush guard 1st. Damn, now it's raining. Gonna pickup the backend and shove it out of the way with this.

maybe a bull nose, but not the 92 up...the screws for the grill,,come from the top,,and the hood has to be up,,top get them out...

Ah yes now that you mention it..I recall that actually..indeed a row of screws across the top...ugh..forgot that *****!...Damn

small screw driver and some time you can get thrue a small hole and pop the latch. but if you just put the cabel back on you must have the latch opened up. if i could get picks from my phone to comp i would go out and get a latch and take picks so you would know what your trying to get too. i also think thers a hook shaped thing that sticks out the drivers side of the latch you can just grab with a o ring pick and pull it out and it will open

yup my memory was corect i went and found a latch thers a plastic clip thats soposta hold the cabel on it too

Let this little experience be a WARNING to EVERYONE to immediately install a back-up emergency hood release cable.

The 1st Gen. Dodges are designed such that the only way to open the hood when the cable breaks (a more common occurence than one would imagine) is to cut a hole in the hood.

There are several threads and TECH-articles in the Dodge sites showing many ingenious hidden emergency hood release cables.

I have them on all of our trucks and they have been called into action a few times.

I put one on the wife's 1991.5 Dodge and also hid a door key in a very ingenious spot under the hood.

It hadn't been on there two weeks before she managed to lock herself out; she pulled the hidden cable, fetched the hidden key, and was able to let herself back in the truck without me being none the wiser.

More than once before, I have had to go rescue her with my spare key; now she can rescue herself and no longer has any need for me.

coming from a differant angle can you just charge up the batteries for now through the cable that runs down to the starter? it does not fix the hood latch but should get the truck moved.

i like midnight riders suggestion for a long term fix!

I managed to open my hood once (for the heck of it) by putting my hand through the grill and pulling down on a small bit of the exposed cable near the latch mechanism. It was hard to do though; my fingers are not small enough. If its set up the same on your truck, you should be able to do it with a hook or something similar I'd think.
