help with ram air

Hey guys im looking to do a ram air set up on my 91 7.3 Iv searched and seen alot of different ideas but not really much for a parts source other then what people found locally.

What size intake hose is best to use I cant go measure now its raining but I think the air cleaner intake is 4"?

I found some flexible hose from mcmaster and I was thinking of running that from the air cleaner down by the radiator support and cutting a patch out of the hose basically cutting it in half length wise to help force in some of the air.

Any suggestions or links to parts would be great. Iv done some searching locally and didnt really find anything that would work real good or was price effective.

Go to home depot or w.e you have as a hardware store in FL and get some dryer duct.. (referably black if they have it?) run that from the air cleaner down beside the rad with a bigger opening.. voila.. colder air for your beast.

Yeps, that's just what I have done on mine. However, I also cut the plastic inlet piece that goes over the battery, I retained it's rear part that the snorkel hose slips onto, and I squeezed that thing down by the radiator. There are actually two openings there you can use - one is right next to the radiato, and the other one is more under the battery tray - I suggest you use the one hext to the radiator, as the other one is a bit too close to the wheel well and who knows how much water you can suck through there when you hit a big puddle and you get water splashing all over.

Alright thanks, I just wasnt to sure how that would hold up after a while. What size is it though or is it only come in one size?

I used dryer ducting from Lowe's it's 4" diameter and it's compressed to like a foot, but it can extend up to 4ft, which is more than enough for our application. It also comes with the two worm-drive clamps needed for the ends, all this for less than $10. Oh yah, tis nice and shiney too, I'd avoid the black ducting (if it even exists) as black attracts more heat than other colors, and shiney actually reflects heat.

Yes a silver or metallic colored one would be way better then black.. I was thinking primarily for looks.. lol We want practicality here.. don't want a redundant setup.. lol

MLSC is yours aluminum? or plastic? I am thinking of doing one myself this weekend.

Oooh, very nice. Aluminum will greatly help keep the heat out of the tube.. I was thinking of an insulated one i saw somewhere... small lining of air around the inner tube.. would work well at keeping the inside temps nice no?

this is an example of ram-air this is on a turbo but can work on n/a truck also

Shoot i picked up a 5 foot roll at walmart for 5 bucks. ran it to the front bumper out the fender flaps next to the frame. it sure does let it breathe more
