Help me build a driveline fluid shopping list

I’m going to be changing all the fluids in my driveline while I’m off work this week, so I want to put together a list of what to buy.

Dana 60 solid front axle -- Fluid type and amount
ZF5 -- Fluid type and amount
1356 transfer case -- Fluid type and amount
10.25 rear axle open diff -- Fluid type and amount

Will I need new gaskets for the diff covers after I pull them off, or will RTV do the trick?
Did I miss anything?

10.25 rear axle conv& L/S---Hypoid gear lube (Ford# XY-90-QL) 7.5 pts
ZF SF5-42------------------Mercon(Ford# XT-2-QDX or DDX) 6.8 pts
BW 13-56 ------------------Mercon(Ford# XT-2-QDX or DDX) 2.0 qts


Rob, I have used the orange Permatex in reinstalling the diff covers and have had no ill effects.

and as Al said, it's about time... who's doing the tech article? info may be here already, but i'll need detailed instructions (drain & fill points, etc)

and now the postjack:
tell us what your fave fluids are. i plan on using Amsoil equivalents for the ZF & rear (axle code 39 = open diff 10.25) - anyone have any reason NOT to? i remember hearing good things about the purple stuff, too- any thoughts?

when you do the diffs i usually use the ignorant Grey International RTV, stuff sticks like crazy, its really strong stuff...

I'll try and take pics when I do mine and see if I can get an article together.

So...
It looks like I'm going to buy 6 qts of Mercon type ATF...

Can I just get 7qts of 90 W Hypoid gear oil and run the same thing in front and rear?
Or should I get 4 qts of 90W and 3qts of whatever that F1TZ-19580-A stuff is?

i'm still waiting on suggestions for which fluids, but let me point out the same thing i missed :
PINTS, not quarts on some of those capacities... i am kinda amazed myself... i figured that big honkin' tranny held a few gallons

maybe that other stuff is 80 wt?

I got all amsoil stuff a few years back to do mine, sans tranny (didn't do it). Pints were right for me if memory serves. I also got a thicker lube for the rear because it is real loose back there. You results may vary Unfortunately it is all still on the shelf

OK guys, I got the article put together on this. It’s a bit like having an article for changing the oil, but it should still prove useful. I have the article submitted to Mel for his review.
