Sooo... We know the truck by another owner... Hmmmm. My interest has been peeked up a bit. I think you will find that silly questions are not asked much around this forum but... Doing silly things to your truck without asking first how to do something is the most worked on fix around here. Its always so sad to help out a member thats made a big mistake only to find out there was planty of help here for the asking. I have driven several hundered miles yo help out members that are broke down out of town or on vacation. Many other members help out with parts transpertation all over the country. A couple of ralleys ago I stopped in Oklahoma and picked up parts that I took to Bowling Green Ky for others... Had a great time at the ralley too. Hopefully you as a new member will be able to attend a ralley. But then again you may have already attended a ralley. Your identy will be fun to find out too. I'll bet someone has already started looking into who owned your truck before you...

I was recommended to join this board and I just registered, so let me introduce myself: I'm a 24-y-o ***** (and I'm 110% proud of it, tehe!) who can drink tequila by the gallon and prepare sushi faster than greasy light moves, and also happen to be the "new" owner of an IDI-powered Ford

Actually the truck is not exactly new to me, as it used to belong to my boyfriend who is one of your fairly active members here - he recently found something from the "dark side" he just had to have but he was a bit short on cash, and since we both put so much work into that truck already it just would not be right to sell it to some random yahoo (not that he'd ever think of selling to begin with, sometimes I think he likes the truck more than he likes me ). So I generosity traded some of my savings for his title, and I'm now the proud owner of a 1990 F350 SCLB dually. No turbocharger so she certainly is no rocketship, but then again my other vehicle is a 6.2 Blazer 4x4 so this is actually a bit of an improvement at least as far as butt-dyno power goes, tehe!

So, yes, I am certainly not new to diesels, and I have some experience with this particular 7.3 IDI, so I promise there won't be too many silly questions, however I'm definitely not the brightest knife in the box and there are several projects with this truck that still need finished, and knowing my goofball he'll be all over his new toy and I got the gut feeling I may have to resort to online help and guidance with the work... Yes I do work on my own vehicles, lol

Sounds like you know what you are getting yourself into better than most women that I know. All my girlfriend knows how to do is put gas in the car lol. I let her drive the pickup once or twice....actually "let" is the wrong word, she can drive it whenever she wants...which is never often enough.

Towcat, thanksyou! And I added the link that I wanted too - scary how little gauges these trucks have, and how many it's nice to have...

You ain't kidding about the gauges. I thought that it was all I needed in my F150 and mow the F250 I drive. But I bought a triple A-pillar gauge pod and loaded it up with oil pressure, water temperature and volt meters and I can NOT believe how inaccurate the factory "indicators" are off.

Cold start Video with gauge pod.. I don't have any pics of the pod with the new white faced gauges installed, but here is a video. They are closer to the end.

When I add some boost this spring, I plan on having a pyro, boost and oil temp gauge for the engine and trans added. Might even go REALLY insane and put one in the rearend lol. I drive truck for a living, and having enough gauges to simulate an aircraft is a must in my books.
