So I got a chance to buy a 05 F-250 with a 6.0 iv had one before but it was a 04 and to be honest I loved that truck except when I was working on it that being said this one has 94k miles has been bullet proofed and has a brand new turbo well the turbo story was he lost the rubber gromet on the air box for the filter gauge/what ever the hell it is good for gauge in the air box he replaced it and ran the truck and pulled the gromet through the turbo so he put a new turbo on it and now wants to sell the truck and for me he said 5500 cash. And it's a clean truck so that being said we're thethere any big issues in the that year that we're different from the earlier year PSD

Welcome to Oil Burners! The 6.0 engines are very nice until you need to change a head gasket. They are rough on head gaskets. I really liked my 2004 6.0 and sold it to a friend who liked it until he had to change the injector pump with a locally sourced one. Something with the injectors. You NEED to use injectors and pumps from a known source not your local injector mechanic. The "good injectors and pumps" are not cheap. There is nothing cheap about working on these trucks. Best of luck!

2005's had a few differences from the '04's. Especially in the high pressure oil system.

The one good thing on an '05 is the HPOP. In '05, the HPOP was upgraded. That said, the discharge fitting on those upgraded HPOP's was problematic. The wavy oil rail was introduced in late '04, so the '05's have the issues that come w/ the components in that oil rail.

Main upgrades needed for an '05:
STC fitting was upgraded to a one-piece fitting after '07
EGR cooler (get one from BulletProofDiesel)
Standpipes and dummy plugs were upgraded after 2007
Fuel pressure regulator spring was upgraded (blue spring)

The best thing to do w/ a 6.0L is get a monitoring system, and when you do, immediately use it to assess the health of your oil cooler!

Also, every 6.0L needs a fuel pressure monitor. Injectors need 45 psi supply pressure AT ALL TIMES, and they are expensive to replace.
