Were are you getting you plugs? The first set of Motorcraft I got off EBay was a mistake as they did not like to play with the factory controller. Found out they were fakes. The second set I got from O'Reilly and they were OEM plugs. With some searching on the net I discovered that the OEM plastic package has a punched hole that is not totally punched out in it. So you might look for that, seems the clones have not caught on to that YET! Actually from Ford they were only about $6.00 a plug more so that really is not that big a deal. These have been in for a year now with no issues.

First round of Glow Plugs was from RA.

Next two have been Motorcraft from the dealer. Luckily they warranted my last batch. Didn’t explain the push button, and played dumb.

I did an open air test on one of my plugs to visualize the glow time. Seems like cherry red is 10-15 seconds. I did a test of my 5 seconds on 10 seconds off, and after 3 rounds of this it was cherry red very quickly. So I’m thinking this cycle was not good after all.

Gonna stick to 10-12 seconds on once then crank it

Will look into Bosch 80034 self-reg plugs. Or find a 7.3 controller to wire in on my trip.

How are the glow plugs holding up?

How’s the bandaided (cut) hardline holding up on your 7000km journey?

Really I just wanna hear about the snowboarding as the Rockies down here are light on snow. (Telluride)

I have dreams of traveling in my van just as you are.

Iam using the 80034 Plugs for the first time this winter.
They heat slower than the Beru Plugs. Iam finding I hit the toggle at least 20 seconds to get her to start.
Depends how cold it is, colder maybe longer.
Do not use the 80034 with the GP Controller.

EDIT:
Some of the colder mornings I have run them to 30 sec.
And then maybe another 10 sec.
At first thought I was having a drain back problem, but just not
letting them heat up enough.
Having used MC ZD-1 plugs for so long, have been skitish about having them on too long, hasn`t seemed to hurt them.
As BlackDawg has said, he hasn`t had one burn out.
They are like a Hot Babe, take`s a bit to warm her up to get going.

Glow plugs zd-28 are doing great so far. Warmed up ever since, no -20 starts yet. Doing 8-10 seconds and turns right over.

Hardline repair seems to be great, still having priming loss overnight. Facet priming pumps flushing the system of air while I run the glow plugs. Works great.

Snows been good! I’m on Vancouver island, wet but got 2 feet at a local mountain, and another foot tomorrow! Wet powder!

Heading down to the states next week, and riding a few resorts on my way back to Toronto.
