Gunky Oil Cooler

Pulled apart my extra oil cooler tonight in the hope of just resealing it and putting it on my 1994. It cam off off my cavitated 1991 Califiornia truck (no rust on the outside of the cooler so better than my rusty one).

I now have 100% confirmation that the previous owner of that 1991 sold me a cavitated truck and had that thing packed full of radiator stop-leak.

Looks like I'll be pulling apart my rusty-bodied one and cleaning it up, because that bundle is not going on my truck! I bet it could be hot tanked or something though and used...

Here's what I found:

Wow thats a mess. I count only 6 open tubes in that bundle and who knows if they are clear. Thats a bad thing to find and now knowing how hot the oil was getting means more engine issues. I bet you would like to kick the crap out of the seller now.

Oh after I had to do an engine swap and then turn around and sell the truck (over a year ago now) I wanted to kick him then. Or just drive the truck into his house.

This just puts the nail in the coffin that he screwed me over.

Clean it up, it'll be good as new. Flush the oil side with gas, you'll be surprised what comes out there. Yeah, there's a lot of lying sellers out there, as I found out.

What's a good way to clean it?

You can rod out the center holes with a piece of #9 wire or something similar.

I used a cb antennae last time I did it lol.

It looks pretty bad now, but it'll clean up. I used a brazing rod to clean mine out.

as the owner of a rad service,,the brazing rod is what you want to use. the chances of gouging the tubes is present with the wire....

I want to pull and clean mine next week. will NAPA have the o-rings? anything else to replace? Its a '93 NA

Really if it isn't leking, I would leave it alone.
Not sure if napa has them or not. Need the gaskets also. Should come as a kit.
