I have a good deal of side to side play in the u-joint. Cap is sliding around. No rotational play I can feel. I was going to grease it but there's no zerk.

So how bad is it on a scale of 1-5.

Do I just need new straps for now until I get a new universal or does this definitely indicate a bad universal joint?

Change a song soon as practical! Don't Be to Heavy with throttle or tow until fixed, that noise is nothing compaired to hearing a driveshaft slap around under your truck everywhere until you stop the transmission from sending power to it and ruining your driveshaft. I did this once it wasn't fun 100 something dollar driveshaft or 25 dollar u joint lol

Yeah... crap. Lol.

I had my Chevy throw a cap one day going 60 on a back road (because it was my first time changing a u-joint) luckily the shaft was fine.

So from what I can tell I need a 1350 series joint. Sound right?

Amazon says it doesn't fit but they aren't always right. 91 F350 Crew Cab 5spd Dually 2wd.

Hoping to find one today after work.

That is a worn out yoke and straps.

U might...get by w a lil help from a heavy friend like I did.

I took a 2lb hammer and punch and tapped the wee tabs inwards on each side till it stopped sliding...it got me home and drove around like that for quite some time...till engine went kaboom.

But plan on new yoke and u joint and straps asap.

What year is truck and is it auto or std?

I am sure there are plenty of yokes here to be had..but u joint width and cap dia are critical

I might just change out the joint and straps and tack it in with a mig. Only moving a little bit.

If someone happened to have a good yoke for cheap I'd replace it but Yukon wants $200 + shipping!!

could be just the incorrect u-joint...

I considered that too. I have no idea when it was last changed either. I know it was in it last October when I picked it up in Texas and drove it back to NY.

It has some rust on it but not bad. Looks like a single winter up here but it could be years worth if rust in Texas lol!

I guess I could pull it and measure the spacing. I just eyeballed it with my tape measure since I already knew what "should" be there, my measurements looked like they were right by what's "supposed" to be there.

I just got my pivot bushings done. I still have to do my radius arm bushings too. So much to fix, so little time!

I'm heading to PA tomorrow to get a good steering column. I don't think I'll put it in until I can replace my leaking brake booster. The list continues lol!
