ford with v6 cummins?????

Not to wierd on the no glow plugs, alot of industrial apps do not have glow plugs. I remember at the township alot of our diesel stuff had a button on the dash called starting fluid, and had a mechanism under the hood that sprayed ether into the engine. The ether came in a small cylender like mapp gas or propane for a torch would come in. We would buy them in a case to have spares, just like propane......

No glows is not weird, most industrial apps of the B5.9 don't use grid heaters at all, they're solely there for emissions. Most direct injection industrial engines run ether start systems.

and a lot of tractor motors dont use ether or glows. the one steiger tractor didn't have either and it started just fine. unless it was under 40 then you'd have to spray ether into the intake and crank it quick.

Yah, it's only the cold weather equipped stuff that runs the ether start, which is why it's the norm around here...
My Cummins will fire at -30 without the grids or being plugged in... You don't want to be near it for about 10 minutes though...

Thats pretty cool, I've never heard of such a thing. I've heard of tractors with gas powered pony motors to get the diesel going. How does that work?

The ether start setup is on my deuce and a half.It hooks to the temp sensor on the head and only works below 30 or 35degrees.So you can't use it going down the road as a redneck Nitros kit.As for the pony engine setup it is like a gasoline powered starter.The pony engine is started and runs through a gear reduction to turn the big engine over fast enough to get it to start.Then the pony is shut off.There was another setup out there too.Multifuel tractors.Start on Gasoline with spark plugs then change over to Diesel fuel only.It sounds horrible when you switch over too.Yet another starter setup is a fuel injector nozzle and spark plug in the intake.My other deuce had that setup.Basically a flame thrower in the intake.Down side is it eats the O2 up and then your trying to start an engine with very little oxygen.
