i have been reading about adding diesel additive when you fill up such as Stanadyne...well when my buddy bought his dodge cummins the previous owner was a big rig diesel mechanic and when he sold the truck gave my friend cases and cases i guess of this Fleetguard additive (#cc2597). does this stuff work the same or is this more or less made for cummins diesel engines. so basically when ever i need a new bottle i can get for free & so is this fine for my IDI?

diesel engine is a diesel engine... it will work. I have always been partial to Stanadyne since they are the only fuel system maker that makes or has made under their name a conditioner for fuel. Does that make it better - don't know.

but I have had good luck with Stanadyne (fred's hair tonic for you older guys-that brings back the old days).

I would say that the use of any lube for the IDI fuel system is good, considering since it uses the fuel as lube for the fuel system.

And for free you can't beat it...
