I've got an issue w/ the 4wd in my 94. Up hunting this past week I noticed it would kick in and out of 4wd, yet the light on the dash would remain on. If I fiddled w/ the tcase shifter it often fixed the issue. I'm guessing it's a linkage issue and plan to mess with it sometime this week. Anyone have a similar issue on their pickup, if so, where did you start to look?

Also, mine has the Auto hubs, which I'm not overly fond of. I was thinking of putting some Warn hubs in place of it. Anyone have good luck with these? http://www.amazon.com/WARN-38826-Premium-Manual-Hub/dp/B000182F22

I would be scared to use chains with auto hubs. Has your t case been apart lately?

no it hasn't (the tcase) it was off the truck when I had the trans rebuilt, so I'm assuming thats where the linkage issue (hopefully just a linkage issue) came to be

THE AUTO HUBS ARE YOUR PROBLEM. Get a set of manuals. The t-case will NOT just switch itself in and out of 4wd.

Save your self $50 and just buy the SUperwinch ones http://www.amazon.com/Superwinch-400439-Premium-Manual-Locking/dp/B000C7LYTW

Dont forget you ALSO need the manual locking hubs Wheel bearing nut kit as well

I'd agree with you, except when I wiggled the tcase shifter it would suddenly start spinning all 4 again. think it was just luck that I fiddled w/ the shifter and the hubs starting doing their part, or could there be a Tcase issue too?

I doubt it. Those 1356 area tough case. Unless you have 300+k on it, then it way be worn

They are tough, but do all kinds of weird stuff when they start to fall apart.

Checking the shifting linkage is an easy first thing to do and better for the transfer case.

Can't be good for it to be "a little bit in gear" if that is the case.

Switch to manual hubs. The autos are a POS, and will leave you in a mud hole for sure!

it could be the little plastic inserts on the shift forks, or the engagement hub, either way, cheap fix.
The linkage is pretty hard to mess up unless the bushings are loose, theres no adjustments.

I have never seen those plastic bushings in the linkage worn out. You would have to do a LOT of 4WD shifting to wear em out I think....IMHO of course.

X3 for the auto hubs getting goofy...wouldn't hurt to change them thats for certain.

As for the 1356...I have had NO luck with them. Now the one in my 1990 is macking a racket again while in 4x4....AGAIN.

Good luck
