Failed snap test

Last snap test 23%. Today's snap test 67%. Passing grade 40%.

I will say that today's technician really made me hold the throttle floored longer than I wanted to, which I believe may have contributed. I am also getting due for an oil change (about 2500 miles on this oil) which might have made a difference.

Anybody have any insight they'd like to share before I try again?

Turn down your fuel about 2 or three flats before going in for the next test and advance the timing about a dimes width and you should pass for sure. Put the fuel to where it runs right after.

Snap test is emissions opacity test, should be easily fixed by turning the fuel down, and they have no way of figuring you did that too

How about your fuel injectors could they be weepy? I think you should pop test the injectors if possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I believe that turning the pump down a couple of flats is a great idea.

I thought about the last emissions snap test I had to do three years ago and I remembered watching the tv monitor for the throttle up and down operations. This morning I had a technician who insisted I watch her hand signals and hold the throttle in the wide open position momentarily before letting off the pedal. I went back this afternoon and asked for another technician to perform the test and I paid more attention to the monitor than the technician, snapping the throttle to the floor for the least amount of time possible. My score this afternoon was 33, which was under tha max allowable of 40.

Bottom line is this test is very suspect as I cut my score nearly in half. Kind of reminds me of everything else the government gets their mitts into .

Thanks again, I may turn the pump down prior to the next test to avoid the additional time I wasted today getting my plates renewed.

How about some sort of easily attached ( and detached) block under the accelerator pedal that would bottom out on the floor at something less than WOT?

Funny you should say that Thats exactly what I do to our old international with the IDI in it. Otherwise it fails every year. It works
