Exhaust fumes when I turn on the heater.

Are you sure it is exhaust and not a fuel leak??

Something to check is the cowl seal. You remove your windshield wipers, antenna, and the screws that hold the cowl in. The cowl seal is like a foam rubber strip that crumbles over time. It seals the engine compartment from the cowl inlet for the heater.
It also keeps hot engine compartment air out of the cab to help the AC work properely.

Well, you're not supposed to run the exhaust pipe thru the heater core, just the hot coolant

Are you sure it's not hot antifreeze you're smelling. Check the floor on pax side and feel for wet antifreeze/coolant. OkieGringo

Darn, that's it Gringoman. No wonder it was so hard to reroute my exhaust. I knew that muffler was too close to my glow plug relay.

Hmmm.. According to my Ford parts guy "There is no cowl seal on a 91 F-350" He even gave me an "exploded view" print out of the whole area and it didn't show one.. So much for trying to order one.... Anyone have any other ideas/fixes.. Thanks..

That is interesting, My 89 does have one however I can see that there is not a factory part number for it If I remember correctly I boutght some 3/4" foam that had some 2 sided tape on it. There is a pic of a piece of the foam attached
If you reach under the cowl,..(see pic) you can feel the factroy seal crumble and disenigrate as you touch it. Just feel around under there on each side of the hood hinge.
Once you remove the cowl, you can see where the old seal used to be, just clean it up and attach some new foam.
The big reason that I did this was to keep hot air out of the cab in the summer so the AC would work better. THere was an old post on this at TDS, a guy was wondering where all the heat was coming from, once he did this it quit, he posted, and I did the same thing.
It is a cheap fix, just takes a little time faniggling the cowl out of there.
