First. I was at a diesel shop and they have a 1995 Ford L8000 with an inline 6 with a HX-40 turbo. Bosch fuel pump. It was dark so i couldnt see much but should this be a DT360 or a cummins.

Second. Im considering swapping a DT360 into my truck. I know a 466 is bigger and badder but i need the swap to be relatively easy and i dont want to do with trying to shoe horn a motor in there when i could be fabricating better parts. How hard would this swap be.

Third. What would be the value of a 1986 6.9/C6/1356 Driveline with 96,000 miles on it. Might need a new IP, pump was never turned up, C6 has the TCI stuff in my signature and it all works great. Truck was also ran on WVO for a while before i got it. No blow by. with the intake off a little smoke comes out of that. Depending on what i need for my swap, the motor would most likely come complete or 99% complete.

I had always heard of the L8000 having a Brazilian Ford diesel 6.6/7.8 as Billy said or a Cat 3208. Since the medium duty trucks and up standardize transmission bellhousings and such any oddball swap would be a lot easier than with our pickups with manufacturer specific bells and bolt patterns. I wouldn't doubt anything you might see within reason, however gotta do your homework to make sure you know what you're looking at. Best place to look for a DT360 is probably IH school buses, but then the 466, the 6.9/7.3 and even the 9L also came in buses along with maybe a few gas motors.

I found a few 3208/DT360 vehicles this morning. If i do this swap i will most likely modify stuff to work with the trans that is on the back of the new motor. I like the idea of having an allison. Im thinking maybe a divorced 1356 if it can hold it as i have a gasser 1356 from a bronco chilling in the driveway.

A school bus would be nice cuz i can scrap it and get some money back for more parts.

as said do some research and shop around. i picked up my 360 for $600. its an 88 with about 140,*** miles on it and it runs great, no smoke and no blow by. i did have to drive 4 hours to get it though. there is a machine shop that sells adapter plates to put ford trannys behind the 360

I think once you get that allison in a pick up you won't like it the way you think.
91fummins on here put one from a school bus behind a cummins in his 91 ford and he hated it. With a 4.10rear his top speed was 60 with the stock governor on the VE pump.
He also had to go almost to the governor to make the allison shift.
I'm not trying to shoot your idea down, just want to give you a heads up on it. Also, the medium duty allison is big and will require floor pan modification.
You can pm 91fummins for details on how he made his fit.

those adapter plates are crazy money too. That was half the reason i decided to sell my 360 and put in a powerstroke in my 86

Im not worried about floor pan modifications. I want a Eaton or something manual.
