Currently looking at Diesel swapping my 5.4 gasser SD. I know eveyone say to either swap in a PowerStroke or Cummins and be done with it, but I 've been looking at other ideas as well. Specifically, I want to go with a straight 6 and I've been mulling the idea of using an International DT series engine. I like the idea of a mechanically injected diesel but want to stay with IH power. Would you guys run the DT360 or the 466? Also would you run a Ford ( there's companies that make the adapter plate for the 4R100 and 5R110) transmission or source an Allison and the run a divorced T-case? Any input would be appreciated.

The DT360 is physically smaller.

I did read about a 99-04 ford DT360 swap on one of these forums a few years ago.

Dt360 would be cool. I used to resist the cummins swap idea, but it really is the answer if function and dependability are the outcome that is being looked for.....but if wanting something cool and different, 12v is still cool, but not different/unique.

The 12V Cummins is a great motor but, there's just some many that have been done. I know the 360 is shorter than the 466 and considerably lighter. Growing up my grandad had an International 1210 with a 301 in it. The factory diesel Super Duty's had the 7.3, which is the same as a T444E, I'd kind of like to stick with an International engine and a straight 6.

My son and I are considering a 7.3 IDI into a 05 F150 with 5.4. The engines are physically the same size.
