I have a ticking coming from the drivers side of the engine.I was hoping it was the IP or an injector, but I changed
both and its still there.
Could someone fill me in on "The Dreaded
Lifter Ticking" I've heard about?
I've got a feeling its going to be expensive.
Thanks,
Doug

Not necessarily expensive if you do your own work. You need to pull the intake manifold and the valley pan to fix a lifter issue. Also you need to check the camshaft lobes to make certain they are within specs. Before you do that, pull the valve covers and see if it looks like you have any valve problems or you have only a minor problem with the rocker arms or valve springs. Have a look see and see what you find. Post back with your findings.

Rocker arms wear and the valvespring will break, inspect both very closely. both motors I have seen throw a rod have first dropped a valve due to broken springs.

One sure sign is rust on the inside of the valve cover. The push rods and rockers should throw enough oil around under the cover to prevent any rust. So if you see rust, particularly if the rust is directly over a rocker, it may be an indication that the lifter is plugged up.
