DIY RSK... Whos done it?

ive done some searching, but all i can find are the kits.

i plan on starting this today
i need to do this first, because a bumper is up next and i want to incorporate
the 3 x 4x 1/4 tubing im going to use for the cross beam into a hidden winch mount.

only thing im unclear about is the rear shackles.
the stock rear spring hanger is offset from the frame a bit,
im looking for some ideas of what some of you have done.

im looking for DIY'ers
not you folks that used a kit

i see what he did with the SD shackles, and i want my leafs parallel!

its also very important to me to keep this thing at the height that its at.

i do not want to lift this thing. even an inch.

78/9 f250 has a nice shackle eye under frame and a small wee part welded i to frame C channel to make a nice RSK....got them in stock btw.

May be able get you pictures if you like.

nope.
there is no way to do a RSK without lifting it, and without MAJOR frame mods.
no room for the rear shackle.
if you wanted to lift it, then there are many ways.
the only other way to do this is relocate the springs on the front diff...
not willing to do that either...
bummed, and throwin in the towel

guess ill go get 2 used tires on the 61 so its not infront of my yard with flats....

15's are hard to come by these days!

This was the discussion when I did the swap many moons ago. Now that it's on the road it drives great. No ill habits at all. Also I don't have a steering stabilizer anymore. I did have one on it before because it needed it. And I didn't grab any height over a factory F350 4x4. I found some measurements online for stock F350's and my truck matched. I believe it was 21" between the front shock mount holes. No clue what a factory measures as this truck started 2wd.

18 7/8" between shock mounts on my '86 F-350 with D60. That's height having just installed new poly spring and shackle bushings. As best I figure there's no way to do put a normal shackle on these trucks without getting a little lift. I'm considering an off the shelf RSK at 2"-3" lift... eventually. Happy at stock height with this truck but up to 4" lift is not a big deal for me.

In factory configuration the inboard face of the rear bushing is like 1" out from the inner edge of the frame rail above it. So how about building yourself a superduty-style shackle with asymmetrical offset that is 1" or so wider than you typically need it to be - put the inner plate where it barely clears the frame rail, weld a 1" spacer to the bottom end of said inner plate to bring the resting surface for the bushing where you need it to be (ass a gusset as needed), bore the hole thru this custom shackle plate just barely large enough for the spring bolt so that there is minimal clearance between the two to minimize any possibility for deflection of shackle plate with respect to the bushing sleeve. Then if you keep the outside plate straight you'll end up with only 1/2" offset between the midway lines for the lower and upper bushings. On bushings that are almost over 3" and 4" wide respectively, I wouldn't think that would make much of a difference. Or would it?

You will have to modify the cab mount tho, its rear vertical gusset will be occupying space needed for the shackle.

Could you loose the inch or so gained from the RSK out of the body mounts so that the net is zero? Ehhh... maybe half an inch...

The rear is easy. It can just be drop shackle. This is a tough one.

Guess you could always switch it over to link bars and air bag it. Isn't that pretty much what Corey did.

Big block springs are also a way to drop height. She'll sit about an inch lower. Gonna ride a bit nicer too.

if i didnt want your guys opinions and thoughts, i would not be on a forum!

99% of you are smart ****'s, and i accept all thoughts and ideas, even tho most of them go out the e-window.

Al actually sent me a picture with essentially LCAM posted, the 78/9 rear shackle.
its got a cast boss thats riveted into the frame rail about half way.
this would give me the clearance needed.
i havnt looked at the clearance of the body mount yet,
but i do agree that it would be a bot of work.

i have some 2.5" SS round stock that i use for suspension mounts for truck arms, radius arm frame mounts etc..
would be perfect for this without using a cast mount.
ill be looking into this today...
id really really like to do a RSK, even tho my truck does ride great, but theres always room for upgrades!
