kenneth if you need some regearing that is no prob I can help you with that. I would leave whats in there till you can find a 60.
the solid axle frt dana44hd and the ttb dana44hd are the same strenth, just the ttb bends a little in the middle. i have had a ttb frt ford for ten years and i love the frt end.
I don't suppose any of these front end 44s could accept 3.07 gears?
What about the break calipers? Normally these trucks have a nice dual piston front disks, can those be swapped over to the D44, or will that already have good enough brakes on it?
Yes you can get a 3.08 R&P (or just about any other imaginable ratio) and dual piston calipers for the D44
I MUST look into this.....I already have a transfer case, all I need is to hang an axle.
I guess a late 70s F250 D44 front is what I would need, but I thought those were the D44HD, and the D44HDs only went down to 3.54? Are the gears between D44 and D44HD interchangable?

newbie question my 89 f250 has a ttb 50
I'm pretty sure it does have a Dana 50TTB. I have always thought ford got rid of the Dana 44HD in their diesel trucks when they came out with the brick nose's, and they switched to Dana 50TTB's in F-250's and Dana60's in F-350's
To my knowledge, ALL 1985 1/2 4x4 F350's got the Dana 60 under the front. Mine is an early '85, so I missed out on the Dana 60...
any way i can convert 5 lug to 8 lug?
