My Rockmount guy stopped by the shop today and I was talking to him on this subject and he recommended the Polaris for general frame repair. Reason being is the Brutus does not work well vertical, or at all if Im running it. I bought a couple different mig wires from him im going to try the next time im welding in the shop, instead of outside like usual.

A lot of times while doing tig or mig you need to build an air dam so the gas isn't blown away from the arc shielding. When that happens the weld goes to crap very fast and you will be grinding it out. It really doesn't take much of a breeze either. Lite a flame and watch it bending in the breeze and you will see whats happening to your bad field welds... When we welded the root pass in the high pressure boilers it required even the expansion and contraction of the atmosphere in the boiler tubes to be still. Otherwise it would suck in the closing root or blow it out at you. A lot of the times when this was really bad we would cut a patato into thick slices and shove it into both sections on the tubes. That created an air dam long enough for the root pass to get done... Of course the QC inspector never saw that....
The potato would just disolve in the high pressure steam... 4200 lbs of it at 1050 degrees....
