Wow, really kicking myself now!!!! lol

I had an idea to get a large clear hose and put it into a bucket, and just catch the coolant in the other end as it streams out of the block plug

As to installing petcocks in the block drains, has anyone found a quality petcock that won't break instantly like the Dorman ones I tried? Seriously, the Dorman petcocks were useless right out of the package.

It's NTP thread, no? Why not just go to a hardware store and get a brass fitting?

I thought about just using a 1/4 NPT ball valve but I'm actually concerned about the handle vibrating its way open. Anymore I don't try too hard to save coolant since it's not that expensive

I put a brass ball valve on my radiator - had the same concerns so I keep a plug in the end of it as well.

Also nothing a small zip tie couldn't hold closed.
Also, I work on RVs from the 80s that have ball valve coolant drains, frankly the older they are, the stiffer they get.

That's all great stuff, sorry if this is hijacking the thread but I have all this some of this in my future as well. My 93 idi with Banks Turbo never came with a radiator shroud and I cannot find one so it never had one, and my fan/clutch came from the junkyard. I tow heavy quite a bit on the hottest days in Florida and never have an issue with overheating? Do you really need a shroud? I was searching all over for one but could not find one so I gave up and realized it does not seem to be much of an issue. I do keep an eye on my fingers however! :)

Drill a hole in the handle and run a wire to something?

No idea why that doesn't work. Try going to www.parker.com and putting DC603-4 in the "What can we help you find?" search field. I promise the drain valve works better than the link I attached.
