I just removed my flexplate in preparation for a ZF5 swap And noticed that three of the bolt holes were leaking oil through. How do you guys go about cleaning these bolt holes so that the loctite will seal next time? Do you spray brake cleaner in there and let it get into the oil pan? Maybe drain the oil afterwards? Do you run a thread chaser through the bolt holes and let the old loctite fall into the oil pan? I suppose loctite isn't hard enough to do any damage to the internals?

Tin foil shield.
Wire bottle brush?
I must be missing something here.....
How is the oil pan open to atmosphere?

Spray brake cleaner. It will evaporate. No need for thread chaser. Blue loctite (clean bolts with brake cleaner, apply loctite & let set up before installing)

Either loctite with brake cleaner or I use permatex aviation rtv its sold by oteillys/napa. It's what ford specifies and it's not like any normal rtv. It's very liquidy but hardens.

Tin foil shield where? I guess the oil pan is only open to atmosphere through the crankcase ventilation. Hopefully that is enough to let brake clean evaporate. I think I'll use a nylon bottle brush because I'm worried a wire one might lose a piece inside.

It's better to let the locktite harden a bit before installing?

Well
Us oakies never throwed nuthin away, as such if it could work it was used.

So thinking of having the tractor ran in the row till it quits pulling, then dropping the flywheel to have it turned while getting a new clutch pac ordered up or pulled off the shelf, and not realize the bolt holes go into the block.....
Think of the dust storm shoving grit in there.

Okay I completely over thought this. A 3/8" diameter nylon bottle brush with brakleen sprayed on it worked very well. I used three all together. Hardly any brakleen made it into the engine I'm sure. A .40 caliber nylon bore brush would have worked well too.
