the cost of shipping might bring it up to comparable pricing to what is locally available but other than that nothing wrong with celsius just need to do a little math that's all

From the pictures they show on the page it looks like it would be really hard to read. I bought one of those off name cheap gauges a long time ago and it was just a waste of my money, from now on I have always just went with a brand I know to be good, it will save you money by not having to buy another gauge to replace the crappy one.

I'd avoid Celsius for this application as a degree C is almost 2 degrees Fahrenheit, presumably you'd have finer readings with a F based EGT

Well, the ad says shipping is free, so that makes this the least expensive NEW pyrometer I have ever seen on eBay or anywhere else - especially since it comes with the probe. Though standard shipping from Australia might be pretty slow, but if you can afford to wait a couple of weeks, no biggie.

Since our EGT limit is 1250 F, the celsius equivalent is ~675 (actually 676.67, but close enough). That is only about 40% of the scale on this EGT's scale (200-1200 C), but I don't see that as a problem. All you really need is something to show you when you're at or near the limit, and an "idiot light" set up to light up at around 1225-1250 F would work.

I'm REALLY tempted to buy one of these for my old Mercedes...

Wouldn't mind being celsius if it at least had some color coding on it to let you now when to back off.

The whole reason that you buy a Pyrometer and put it on your truck is to protect your engine from damage, it's kind of a form of insurance. I will buy a lot of generic stuff when it doesn't matter but something like this worries me, what if it is just a POS and it is reading 1150 when it is actually 1350, if it was just something for novelty then I wouldn't mind buying off brand crap but this is an important gauge and I would think that you would want to buy a good one. Quite a while ago I bought one of those cheep off brand boost gauges on ebay and put on my old truck just to see what kind of boost it was making. The gauge wasn't smooth in it's movement and would jump between reading when acclerating, I hooked it to the regulator output on my air compressor and slowly increased the pressure to the gauge checking it's accuracy, by the time I reached 20 psi on the regulator the POS boost gauge was reading 12psi, could you imagine if I had been tuning the engine based on that POS. I ended up throwing that POS in the trash and bought a Auto Meter gauge like I should have in the first place, you will save money if you buy the good gauge in the first place.

I don't see anything wrong with sunpro, as long as a brand has been around for a bit and actually has a name. They never give the name of the gauge in that ebay auction so I am assuming the brand is Metec or Meteo that is written on the box. You can get an Auto Meter Pyro with shipping and all on Ebay for $109, I don't think that is bad when it is a known good brand and your engine would cost a lot more than $74 (diff between $35 and $109)to fix if the pyro is badly off and you just keep pushing it because you think it is ok .

But do you really want to be the Guinea Pig with your engine for their No-Name Company, it is not that much more expensive to buy a known good brand.
