I just bought this truck and of course no part store in town can find a air filter for this thing. It’s an 88 f250 7.3 with the ATS turbo obviously lol. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure the filter number is inside the cover. Cast into the housing. It crosses over to an early Porsche turbo motor.

It looks like you have an 088 turbo with the 085 air filter housing. I had this set up, not uncommon.

Perfect thanks guy y’all are the best. I’m gonna take this down to Napa as soon as I get off work! It’s a great running truck but that air filter is horrible so I’m trying to not drive it much tell I get a new one.

With mine I discovered the 085 housing was causing the air restriction gauge to set if i ran wide open throttle, even with a new filter. I added another opening with a hose to front grill. This cured the air restriction. The 088 housing has more filter area.

You're right. those are pretty restrictive housings. Even compared to the other styles. I like the idea of the second hole and hose.

You would have to fab something yourself. There are a lot of good examples in pictures in the forum. You would need a silicon angled coupler, clamps, appropriately sized and angled tube (aluminum) and a cone type filter. Here is an example on my powerstroke. Idi could be similar.

For the 085 air box, I think the only paper filter still made is Mahle LX261. So it's that or K&N. Or getting rid of the box and having a tube with a cone or barrel type filter.

My RV has a retaining ring for the 085 filter instead of the air box lid, because the lid can't fit in a van chassis. So it has the filter top completely open.

That old K&N got thrown away due to how rotten the filter was. I bought a NOS K&N one still in the box and oiled it up with a fresh oil kit, and I keep the paper LX261 as a spare.
