During my recent fuel system thrash I thought I was looking at rust in the Facet clear fuel bowl. After pulling the bowl and screen it turned out to be reddish brown slime that had the screen pretty well coated and a layer in the bottom of the bowl that looked like rust from the outside. In all my years of diesel I have never came across brown algae in the fuel, always black. Anyone else come across brown fuel slime?

I f pretty surprised because I have had the tanks off not too long ago and they were spotlessly clean except for all the little black pieces of shower head (fuel suction bell / screen assembly) No rust, dirt or slime was in there. I buy my fuel at one of two places, the cardlock at the bulk plant or a very new high volume station at the local Indian casino. I have been running Stanadyne Lubricity for years, ran out and have run a couple quarts of Sta-bil fuel treatment. The screen took a good scrubbing with carb cleaner and a stainless steel toothbru

My IP was chock full of the stuff. Looked like rust at first. And indeed, it had the governor frozen in place. Still causing some problems, I think.
