hi to all. truck broke down-stranded, unique transport, miles from home, its my mobile house aswell...ve pump out on 12v cummins. managed to get recently serviced s/hand pump, as mine was f##'ked(stripped by pump specialist, rotor head destroyed) when i received s/hand pump, in post top cover where the accelerater shaft goes thru casing busted-cuss
i swapped over top casing, but guestimated where the original governer spring setting was.it means that i set the spring cam to be a couple of milimetres away from housing at wide open position(viewed from inside)
now ive been stuck in a car park for 4 weeks waiting to find a pump....
fitted it(in snow) bled injectors thru, but she wont fire on own( i get some starting with easy start but then it shuts off) no luck at all, just wont fire.
WHERE DO YOU INDEX THE GOVERNER SPRING/CAM TO?
i wish to check i have the right injector line connected/ pump end- whats the sequence, clockwise- i.e cyl 1 ,2,3, etc??
is it possible to fit the pump "out of phase" with engine? i used blocking pin, in pump drive, BUT not on pump..
any help would be much appreciated, as the cops have been round to turf me off already..

stiilll no luck-- au secours!!!

well the lowdown is the ve pump hasnt got enough power to open injectors, i know co s i fitted an injector out of engine..
so, whats the problem???

i turned the fuel screw right up aswell... still sweet f.a.

what could be the internal problem on this????

the link dont work whitmore buddy- i tried it..

thanks anyhow..
and could a ve specialist help me out??
i rang a diesel specialist here and he said
"give me 250 dollars , illl put it on the test bed, and tell you whats wrong"
f**kin great..
i was quoted 650dollers for a used, un garanteed unit!!!
its not rocket ship science inside- i have seen them apart..
there are some real con men trying to make you believe its "black magic" its just a rip off.
i'm pretty mechanical savvy- i used to work at ricardo engineering testing diesels-(common rail) so if i can rebuild a auto tranny, strip and race build a motorbike engine, i can surely refit my v.e pump. i sure as hell can take a v.e apart and see whats the problem...

are you positive you got fuel getting to the pump?does your engine have a lift pump?(where you are its probably called a primary fuel pump)have you tried filling the fuel filters to prime the system?

in order for you to see the link given to you,you need to download a PDF file reader like adobe acrobat .there is alot of info in that link for you on the governor and how to set it.

Its is possible to install a VE pump 180 deg off and they will run , REALLY bad after partially coughing to life. Make sure you have it firing on the compression stroke. After that, Open up the injector lines and bleed the air out, those things can be an insane bear to get the air out of when you install them, even with an extra electric pusher pump installed ( which I highly reccomend ) But if you don't have one, get ahold of an outboard boat fuel tank and hose with a primer bulb and stick the tank on the roof and attack the hose directly to the ve pump with a small inline filter to catch debris then open uo the injector lines and have someone crank the engine over while you squeeze the promer bulb like crazy until fuel squirts out HARD out around the injector fittings, when fuel starts coming out stop it and tighten those and crank some more till others get fuel, and stop again etc till they all get it or it fires. I do this on VW D24 engines regularly .
When those things get air in them , it can sometimes take running the batteries down completely twice before you get all the air bled out, and sometimes you get lucky.
