Hey everyone,

So I have been looking for replacement battery trays and not having much luck. I have found a few that say they are for the passengers side but I wonder if they fit the diesel battery. I have kinda decided to fabricate new trays and just wondering if any of y'all have done so, and how you built them and how they are holding up.

Mine look like standard east coast swiss cheese.

The cheap plastic ones at O'Reilly work fine for group 65 batteries, but you need to screw them down to something like the old tray (if any is left) or a frame thing running under it.

One I put in my RV on the driver's side:

I don't have much left to attach to. So I am going to build something, but whatever I make I will be putting a plastic battery tray in it too. Simply to keep the battery and the paint both safe from each other. Hopefully no battery rubbing around on the paint will mean it won't rust out again.

Decide if you're in the group 65 or 27/31 camp. Both sizes used on diesels.

The 65 is often an easier battery to find in a high CCA cranking, and longer warranty than a 31. (i.e. Costco, Walmart, etc)

Put a piece of rubber mudflap in the bottom (for example). Works for me :D

Available aftermarket (LMC also seems to have them):

I was able to adapt the passenger side battery tray from a 1996 gasser F350 into my 1986 diesel no problem.

At a glance, even the later style 99 SD truck trays seem identical to the 1996 style that I now have:

If Fleabay isn't your preferred source, you may be able to make a 1st gen superduty tray work, which should be easier to find.

Check out carrickcustoms.com they sell replacement battery trays

I like these a lot, I actually made up a design and took it to my local sheet metal shop yesterday and they are making me some 14 gauge stainless trays. I hope I can afford them when they are done making them. But at least the stainless I won't have to worry about ever.
