I was parked slightly downhill last night at a rest area. I saw no moisture on the ground this morning, no seepage from the lower hose, and no spray on the engine presumably, I heard no squealing when I promptly got on I-10. So hopefully that's solved.

Judging by how porous, pitted, and corroded i've seen these upper and lower coolant elbows get, i'm not surprised you're seeing a slight coolant leak from that. Before I installed this last engine I wire wheeled the heck out of both upper and lower. It was a combo of this white/greenish powder, corrosion, and rust. Even after cleaing it wasn't pretty or perfect. I used worm clamps since it seemed like the only thing that would be tight enough to seal. If the joint was super smooth like a plastic formed radiator outlet and didn't corrode I could see the constant clamps working.

The old style worm clamps work fine, I have them all over my vehicles. But if you install new hoses under the clamp, guaranteed you will have to snug them down after they get some miles on them.
