With the colder temps setting in and with a cold engine I believe I have a coolant weep/drip behind the front cover.
Hot engine, no drip, all summer, no drip.
If it was the water pump it would be leaking at the weep-hole, all the time.
Not happy.

Well, just keep a jug of coolant and top it off regularly. Or while you're snowed in you could pull the front of your engine apart and freshen everything up.

Ha, assuming I have a nice warm, well lite shop to do all that in. Since I've been driving (1973) everything is done out in the elements, laying on cardboard.

I understand, I split a tractor on my driveway today to replace the clutch. I do have a carport, but when it starts raining the humidity will be so high that it's almost raining in there.

Looks as much fun as working on my 'prior' old 1950, Allis-Chalmers Dozer.

Here's another thought. You could get a cooling system pressure testing kit and pressurize your engine when it's cold to see where the coolant is coming from. The way it acts sounds more like a seal or hose to me rather than a gasket.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
I had a 59 Cat D6, cable dozer, 12ft blade. I sold it, because needed money more than a dozer at the time. But sometimes, I kick myself because I could sure use it every now and then.
@Jesus Freak come on up here & I got a '50 Cat D6 Hyd 12' blade I might just give you! Sitting out here in front yard in the way & needs pony motor rebuild......think spun rod bearing.

That certainly is an idea.
I definitely can't test it running as the fan blows it all over and again, it doesn't leak when hot.

Years ago, I read of a solution to an oil weep problem on an aero engine with a split case design (boxer engine). Oil leak was traced to the centerline split in the case, so resealing it would have involved a complete teardown. Instead, they pulled a vacuum on the crankcase of the engine and applied anaerobic sealant to the leak. Over the course of a few hours, sealant was drawn in and it apparently sealed the leak for at least a few years. Not sure if that could work for the water jacket. If nothing else, you would have to drain most of the coolant since it might try to boil off. Crank cases generally have lower pressure in them as well.

Just spitballing alternatives to pulling the front cover off.
