As for the valley pan hole, one time I installed a reman engine in the shop I used to work at. Nothing I did would stop oil from leaking out around the pedestal/gasket at higher rpm's until I put a hole in the valley pan gasket there. I'm sure there was just something about the way it was built, but it was brand new. After that, I just got in the habit of punching that hole. I used a punch attachment on my air hammer. I always felt that it was better than drilling a hole-fewer shavings. Just be careful to not go too deep with the punch. It doesn't take a very big hole. Maybe 3/8 inch is all.

The 088 has a giant casting with both exhaust passages in it.
