I've only seen one 5.7 and I didn't look at it very closely, but that's how the 6.2/6.5 engines were. Seeing as how GM didn't really do much evolution from the 5.7-6.5 I feel safe in assuming that the 5.7 was built the same way.I’m talking out of my league but I think the vacuum pump was where a distributor would go, which was turned by the cam and that shaft also connected to the oil pump. Like a SBC.
She's out looking at SUVs and Subarus right now, but if she's still looking in June I'll tell her to get in touch with you. She's in SW Misery, so a whole state away, but maybe y'all could work something out.I have my 87 F250 in SW Arkansas (extended cab, long bed, 2017 installed all tertian tires with under 15k miles on them) I need to probably sell, but I'm in Arizona right now. I am considering going back out there around June actually, but that might be too late? It's not perfect but it was running good when parked late 2020. But I realize that's further from Alaska than you already are. Figured I'd mention it anyway.
Glad that the IDIs work good for you up there. The IDIs start and run all winter, long as we plug'em in. We use stadard flooded lead acid batteries. Long as they're charged, they don't freeze. We put a trickle charger on the battery, a heat patch on the oil pan (another on the transmission oil pan for automatics) and the block heater.
If you get up this way give us a shout.
Edited to add: what do you do for a living, KansasIDI?
Did she ever find something?I have a daughter who's in Missouri until June, and she wants to buy a truck down there and drive it back to Alaska. Her budget is about $6k. The truck has to be solid enough to get here from there with no issues. She's going to want me to help with maintenance in the future, so an IDI would be ideal...
Edited to add: she's looking in Overland Park, Kansas, too, so I guess Kansas or Missouri or whatever's close.
I figured there weren’t any feedlots up there, but I didn’t realize that you don’t have a slaughterhouse. Takes some government bribery to get one@KansasIDI, there is a lot of heavy construction in Alaska, but probably no real scope for your specialty. We could have a much bigger cattle industry if we had a slaughterhouse, but right now herds are sized in dozens, because there just isn't a way to dispose of more.
