Al that's a great point also.

I used to have a 4x4 block I used, and I'd drive up on it when fueling. But it disappeared long ago.

Now I've adjusted my brakes, and magically my parking brake started working. LOL

Hydro conversion using parts out of a Bricknose F-superduty on a bullnose truck was an afternoon job. That being said, it has nothing to do with your parking brake.

And my trans guy tells me that with the "new" Fords (whatever that means) he has seen instances where the parking bands in the tranny actually broke and then the truck rolled down the hill. He gets the trucks in the shop to to replace the parking bands after the accident has happened. I guess the bottom line is don't rely entirely on "PARK"!

i can't tell you how many vehicle recoveries I've done due to vehicles coming out of "Park" all by themselves.

This one quote says it all. Ford has always had a issue with the C6 trans magically jumping out of park when sitting there warming up. Thats one of the reasons they had a message to all owners years ago to maintain the parking brakes. Now we know about the rear drum brakes self adjusters not doing what they were designed for. And the sinking brake peddle after a complete stop.. Welll it my feelings the ford brake engineers did a poor job putting together the cheapest brake system the bean counters would agree too. Remeber the exploding fuel tanks on the Pintos and what the recall repair consisted of to fix that... About 2 inches more fill hose from the tank to the fill neck... How much money did they save doing the cheap toute compared to to costly litigation and law suites they lost cause people burned up in those pos poor excuses for a car. Now look at the smart cars.. Or should we call them driveable coffins.. They don't look much bigger than one of those. Smart cars..... I don't think so.... Scooter...

Back in my highschool days a friend of mine's dad had a beautiful '66 chevy 4x4 pickup. It was his pride and joy, his dad bought it new and handed it down to him, and it was in perfect shape...

One morning my dad and I are on our way to school when we see this seafoam green machine barreling out of the quik-e-mart parking lot in reverse and hauling ass down the road. We swerve and narrowly miss getting hit, but the city cop behind us wasn't as lucky. The truck nailed the copper car dead on the front drivers side fender, went halfway up the hood and blew the windshield out.

Chasing this '66 chevy was my friend's dad, he dropped his pack of donuts and coffee midway down the parking lot, but of course there was no catching that thing...

dad and I stopped and got out, come to find out the parking brake on this '66 chevy had been out of adjustment for a while, and he stopped at the quik-e-mart every morning to get coffee, and left the truck running to warm up, but today his usual parking spot was taken, so he parked in a different spot on a very, very slight incline - Force of habit dictates he left the engine running as usual.

Truck was banged up pretty good, the city cop was damn pissed, and my friend's dad went to work that day with a banged up truck, a nice ticket, no coffee or donuts, and badly damaged pride...

All this being said, the parking brake in my truck hasn't worked since I bought it. I never leave it running, always slam it into first gear. If I am on a hill I wedge something under the tires. This experience taught me that even a very, very slight incline gets things into motion, gravity and inertia take it from there...

dont worry you are not alone, when i was in tech school in TX my wife living in our PA home was driving my truck. she parked it and unloaded the kids for the night. what she forgot to do was se the parking break or even put it in gear. my truck decided to leave sometime in the middle of the night and bum rushed a tree.

she came out the next morning thinking someone stole our truck! then she noticed the flattened bushes and path of distruction over my hill. i got a replacement front end out of it and my cab is now tweeked. the doors now lightly touch the top of the door frames while the rest is lined up and the bed gap is off. i didn't go after that fight since the truck still works fine and i didn't want it totalled out.

crap happens sometimes, even the Dog Catcher has done the yard truck chase!:D

All I gotta say is, you guys that put the hydroboost conversion on these old trucks had better check the condition of the brake lines. Higher brake line pressure can pop those old rusty lines.

My neck sure feels better now. That pic isn't copyrighted is it?

lol bull thanks, i rotated it a bunch of times and everytime i upload it to tinypic, it spins it.

As posted..Gald nobody got hurt.. Children playing in front of any running car or truck scares me but good. Parents just do not think sometimes. Ever see children run thru parking lots and parents doing nothing about it.. Or the little ones are so far from the idiot parents they couldn't help them if they wanted too. Adjusting up the rears is the best way to fix them. If the parking brake peddle sets near the floor the rear shoes are way out of adjustment. That peddle needs to set in the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the travel. When you have that your going to feel al your brakes working once again.. The self adjusters in the rears really do not function as designed.. Ever.. At least I have never read a posting telling me how great their brakes work out back...

I haven't popped the wheels off yet, but a few months ago a shop told me my shoes were pretty damn worn. It stops when i want it to (unloaded) but clearly needs parts replaced. When I do have to brake hard it pulls left and right and a slight shudder. So the fronts are just about due as well. Might as well get em all done before the tow.
