I order some SCA additive and test strips for my "new" truck. Tracking said they were delivered and no sign of the package. Ok, working on getting that resolved.

Went to go pick up the truck today from the seller. He started it to move it and clean the snow off, then it died and would not restart. I was 50 miles into the trip when he called to tell me. He says it's not air in the lines, it looks like a solenoid near the IP is broken. Now I have to have him get the truck fixed for me since I have no other way of getting it home except to drive it.

I expect stuff to happen with a 22 year old truck, but can I at least get it home first?

The only solenoid near the IP is the Cold Hi Idle, that has nothing to do with engine running or starting except to Hi Idle at startup til the engine reaches 120 degrees then it deenergizes and the engine goes into the regular idle speed of 650 RPM.

It could have been the fuel shutoff solenoid, or he could have been referring to either the main firewall start solenoid or the glow plug relay that looks a whole lot like a start solenoid if that was relocated for a turbo, it might in fact be right next to teh turbo? Eitehr case, there are not major items

If the high idle solenoid shorted out would that cause it?

More detail from the owner. He says it's the throttle position sensor (really the FIPL?). A plastic linkage broke letting a spring loaded pin out of the IP causing the fuel to dump out. He think he might be able to find the plastic part and get the pin back in but the pump might have to come off and become a big job.

That all sound right? Is there an IDI guy with a shop in CT that can help me out? If it can't be fixed in his driveway, I'd rather take the truck off his hands and get it fixed myself.

EDIT: Yay! My service manuals arrived. From the pump diagram it looks like he might be talking about the automatic advance. New pump then?

From your description i'm thinking the internal advance. If you look on the drivers side of the pump there is a plunger that moves in and out with the throttle action. If indeed this is where the problem is I am fairly sure you need to contact Mel Agne. any chance you can get a picture of the problem area?

I guess it's a pivoting linkage from the FIPL down the side of the pump to a pin at the bottom. The linkage broke at the pivot and was apparently, the only thing that holds the pin in the bottom of the pump. Are the FIPL and advance connected like that?

He's getting me a picture. I'll post it when I get something.
