So that cabover in reel steel was actually a factory produced truck?

Yes.... that IH Cab Over is a factory unit. Over on the IH Garden Tractor forum I frequent, we were talking about the old IH Trucks, and that style did come up....

They were factory... what IH did, was exactly what they are called, they put the Cab over the Engine. These are the Conventional designed trucks, but instead of putting a hood over the engine, and the cab behind the engine, basically they set the cab ontop of the fenders, and used it as the hood, and the 2 lower windows with the wipers, below the IH logo, were used to fill in the bottom of the cab, where the firewall would normally be. IH did alot of strange stuff, back in the day like this..... but as for parts..... use the same parts to build both, rather than a conventional, and a cab over cab..... like they did in later days...... So the reason it looks like someone stuck the cab on the fenders, is because that is what happened....

On a sidenote, the old late 70's IH Transtar Cab-Overs were sharp.... they had some lines and character... not just a box......
