Thanks a lot, I don't have a lathe to cut things apart but I am pretty steady with a grinder. I also have a dial indicator and a good welder to put it together. That is what I am planning to do with all of my drive shafts. I figured at worst i might need to have them balanced and even then I have read on some tricks to do that yourself to.

I say go for it. I didnt always have a lathe. Before that I used torches to blow the weld off, tubing cutter or grinder.
It's not bad. I think factory shafts are balanced bc it's an assembly line and the people aren't paying as much attention to detail. I measure 10x before I start that welder up.
My buddy works at a driveline shop making shafts all day. He said dodges are the worst lol. He also said that if your carefull and make uniform welds you will need little to no weight.
Personally I have never balanced one. This truck goes so smooth down the highway you would think you're in a lincoln.
Same with my Belairs as fast as you want to go their smooth.
