So I have a real problem...I am sort of addicted to idi's. It doesn't make sense, they are slow, loud, and old hehe. I just love how simple and tough they are. I had my van which I sold about two years ago and have been missing the idi world since. I almost bought a very clean powerstroke (97 F250 4x4 auto, single cab) for $9k - but passed because the maintenance was questionable and I don't feel like having to worry about the HPOP and extra electronics when compared to the idi.
So here I am looking at idi's again. I do worry about parts though. These trucks are becoming more few and far between. Even just a few years ago (2014-2016) they seemed to be around a lot. Now I rarely see them for sale, parts too. Those you do see for sale are nearly dead, have decades of hacked up repair jobs, and probably about two months from hydro-locking, haha.
Which leads me to this post: https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/jurupa-valley-1985-f250-diesel/7395172591.html
Very clean 85 with a 6.9 and C6. I'm interested, but not at $8k (yes I know how crazy truck prices are these days). I've been considering the 6.9's over the 7.3 because I've already had two 7.3's with head gasket/cavitation problems. One hydro-locked, the other was probably not far off but just leaking oil from the HG. Not sure about buying a truck for $7-8k that could have something break and not able to find parts.
Why do you all think?
What price would you offer?
How many more years do you reckon we got with these awesome trucks before we're stuck without replacement parts?
