Hey there im new here
bought a 6.9 recently, runs great but I've started going through it in depth now that i have a bit of time off and finding a few hidden treasures. The previous owner replaced the fuel lines and front tank and tracing the lines back i found a holley black gas&diesel fuel pump mounted tot he frame wondering iff its worth hooking up seems odd to have it before the water seperator (which he also bipassed for some reason) he also put in a brand new mechanical pump.. any suggestions?

My guess is the water separator was leaking fuel (common on the bull nose 6.9 IDI's). I'd also guess the Holley failed and that is why the new mechanical is on there.

Pull the Holley off and test it. May not run at all. Plus, the black pump is overkill (volume and pressure) for an IDI.

Welcome to the forum. As already posted.. The black electric pump is way more than you need. A holley Red will work fine for the idi needs. Many other electric pumps can work but please ask before buying any. Some are not worth the time installing them. finally please never run both the mechanical and an electric pump at the same time. What will happen in the electric over pressurizes the mechanical diaphragm and tears it. then diesel pumps into the oil pan ruining the bearings quickly.

Also, open the bottom of the pump & see if the Micromesh screen is stopped up. He may not have used an inline filter between the tank and Epump. Black pump is overkill. I have been through 3 Holley Red pumps over the years & won't buy anymore. I use the Duralift 40223 pump myself as a pusher & it works much better. Much better pricing also.
