I have come across a parts truck with a cab and chassis. It's a 3/4 ton - I really want it for the interior, but am looking at the frame as well. Is it the same as my 82 dually's frame? This is on an 86. It has the ttb front axle, I think, but I'd swap a dana 60 in.

Will this work? Anyone need anything taken from KC to Birmingham?

the only differences on the frames between the f250 &f350 is if it started life as a pickup or a commercial cab chassis. the rear frame widths are different. The only other difference is 2wd &4wd. the front parts of the frame will have different drillings for the rivets.

I also noticed that my 85 cab and chassis had a re-enforcement plate on the top and bottom of the frame that extended from about 2 feet forward of the rear of the cab to about 2 feet under the bed. Not sure if this is common or not.

Also, as Towcat said, the 85 cab and chassis was 34" wide and the 87 F250 is like 37.5". I know this because I have to relocate my spring perches when I put the 85 axle under the 87 truck.

Are the dually Dana 60's the same as the SRW?

Anyone have one they want to give away?

1) nope. the offset is different to accomodate for the dually rim. Also, iirc...dually rears are dana 70's if not 10.25's
2) nope.

Towcat - thanks, but I meant the front axles. I've already got a Dually dana 70HD for the back. I think I've got a 3/4 ton frame, but it has the TTB axle.

I believe that the D60 fronts from a dually had different front hubs than those from SRW models.

Yup, F350 had dual-piston calipers up front (early to mid 80s), rear had extra springs with tab on frame, and torsion bar that bolted to rear axle. At least mine did. Went from an '85 F250 to an F350 and found these differences.

All of the 80+ cab / chassis that I have seen had the frame doubling under the cab. They made the frames lighter in the redesign and I assume they did not survive durability testing without the doubling.

The area under the cab is where they will bend when overloaded. The bed usually adds some rigidity to the back of the frame. I'm seen quite a few dump trucks and a few pickups that the frame was bent that way.

I guess the easiest way to see if the frames are the same is to measure the thickness of the metal. That would be the only thing different for a pickup frame. One would hope a dually frame would be thicker but who knows....

The front brakes are the same F250/350, and the D60 is the same, just the wheel hub itself is different. A D50 TTB wheel hub will interchange with a DRW D60 hub to make a SRW axle if needed.
In my experience, the frame of an over 8500 GVWR F250 is exactly the same as that of a F350 of the same configuration.
