Light rain and towing the usual aluminum 20' trailer @ 70+ MPH.

Came to a 7% hill and decided to lean on it.
Started out by locking out overdrive and allowing the converter to lock up before th hill. Speed was about 70.

As I came to the hell I gradually increased power untill I passed 75. Boost was at about 9 PSI with the converter still locked. Usually, it only gives about ~6.5

Then I floored it an the converter unlocked allowing for maximum RPM and boost. Right away it went to 12 PSI and by the time I was at the top it was 13PSI. EGTs seem to hit a wall at 900, wouldn't go higher for anything. Topped out at about 82 MPH on the hill, then backed off at the crest. Simply slowing down to 70 was enough to bring the EGTs back to the normal 600-700.

It was raining, so I wasn't able to see any smoke. On dry days I noticed it seems to run fairly clean though. Fuel screw is bottomed out.

Even when pulling away from a few stoplights, I was able to just touch 10 PSI even in first gear. Usually 5 is the limit there.

Maybe I was wrong about my setup, because it did pretty good today. Wonder what a moose pump would do.....

Yea you ran out of fuel for sure. A Moose pump would certainly fix that.

On this same subject, What would cause not enough boost? With my banks I can hit 10, barely. I know when crash86 had this turbo it would 13 with no propane and pretty easily. I think my ip is putting out enough, but maybe my injectors aren't doing the job? they have 200,000+ miles

I know you've probably been asked this a zillion times before, but whats the % of potential fuel flow increase that a moose gives over stock? 25%, 30%????

I think it is in the neighborhood of 30% more. Fuel, boost, RPM and EGT's are all interrelated. If you don't have enough boost, your EGT's can be high and you become limited in that you really can't put more fuel in. If your boost is high, your EGT's will be lowerer, and you have lots of room for more fuel, but could overboost depending. The presence of an intercooler has a big effect on this. If you have lots of fuel, lots of boost, and your EGT's are pressing max, this is about the best you can hope for. Increasing any one of the 3 will start to stress something. Basically what it comes down to, is EGT's can be controlled somewhat by flushing the cylinders with air. The more boost, and the more RPM's, the faster the heat is made and let out, so the cylinder stays cooler which keeps your EGT's down. Keep everything the same, but lower the RPM, and now the EGT's will really creep up on you. Unfortunately, the boost will start to drop, and you get into a situation where you can't move the air in and out fast enough. Likewise, you have to endure a momentary increase in EGT's to generate more exhaust gas to spin the turbo back up and begin the process of ever increasing boost and RPM's, so it works both ways. EGT's will start to drop as this happens. So, you can see getting the right balance is important. Typically with a wastegated system, your able to limit your boost to a predetermined maximum. This is helpfull for controlling gasket stress, but then of course your limited to how much more fuel you can put in by your RPM's and EGT's. Non-wastegated turbo's will readily over boost if more and more fuel and RPM's are added, but the EGT's remain in check. It's an interesting relationship they all have.

OK Mel, I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. I'm going overseas for a couple of months and won't need the truck so I'll be pulling the pump this week.
Canadian dollar is also pretty good righ now too.

How does this need to be packaged?

Where do I send it?

Can you accept a paypal payment? (how much?)

How do I proceed?:D

I leave on saturday, so I need to get on this fairly quick if its going to happen.

How heavy was your trailer and how long was the grade. Sounds like your truck has a fair bit of power.

Grade was about 1/2 a mile. Trailer is only about 1500 lbs. We weighed it once but I don't remember the exact weight, but like I said its about 90% aluminum so its pretty light. Only real catch is its wider than the truck so the front wall is a bit if an air dam that I'm dragging behind.

The truck is 6000lbs without me in it.

It does seem to have good power. 0-60 isn't really much to write home about (best so far was 13 seconds), but acceleration at 50 and above is something I would go against any other IDI with. Just gradually throttle up and it keeps on accelerating until I loose my nerve.

Get a torque coverter lockup switch or controller, so that the converter stays locked and loads the motor more. Diesels are diesels, autos are autos, and my old CTD would never make peak boost with an unlocked, or slipping converter. Locked converter is the only way to go to really load the motor for peak boost and EGT's.
