The smartphone has truly revolutionized my roadside-troubleshooting efforts.

    Grade 8 bolts for exh.mani

Just FWIW, this is the stuff we use in the OSB mill for fasteners that experience significant heat and heat cycling for many, many years at a time. It's a little expensive, and I'm not sure I'd buy it if I wasn't able to get it for free, but if you want to be able to back a bolt out of an...

The true value of a 7.3 N/A engine?

I don't think an unknown engine from a pick-a-part should be used for a reference here. First of all, they're rare as hen's teeth in the junkyards around my neck of the woods; second, its hardly a little four banger we're talking about here. I would give 400 for one that ran, more for one that...

Wow, this burns my biscuits. Radiator rant.

Not sure what the price is at oreilly's, but the champion all-aluminum radiator I have in my truck has served me well pulling a 20 ft enclosed trailer with a 28hp tractor and landscaping equipment inside. it was 250 or so I think, and very well made

Warning: Pentius fuel filter P/N PFB54692

Ordered five of these from rock auto, because at 7.60 a piece, I figured I couldn't lose. Turns out I could and did. Threads for the water separator are not made to spec, the plastic cartridge spins in the housing (the part with the threads), and the o-rings are all but the wrong size. Don't...

6.0 Shopping, what to look for?

I had a buddy with a 6.0 that sounded like a jet engine, but it was only when the engine was below operating temperature. Turned out that it needed 4 injectors. Note sure if it's relevant or not.

Looking for Input on boring 6.9 to 7.3

This engine needs one of Mel's ball bearing turbos when they become available. NEEDS.

another one goes off to die.

This conversation is why when I head to Michigan for work in a few months, I may drive my rust-free 92 truck up there, slap a sign for 8K on it and wait to see what happens.

Some Small Winter Woes (Park Brake, Foot/Defrost, Engine Operating Temp)

The control for the vent selector is under the dash and the blend door (temperature) selector is under the hood on top of the blower motor enclosure...as near as I can remember. Both are vacuum controlled.

    FS 1990 F350 turbo

Don't fret over the two pedal issue. I came to love mine (after being a manual-only guy from age 16) if only because it made scarfing down cheeseburgers and coffee in morning traffic while running late for work that much more relaxing.

? for people who have owned allot of new and old trucks.

Low-ish mile Duramax with an allison. There's an extended cab (maybe 2006-08 or so) for sale here with 140K for 8900 bucks. It pains me to say it, but the dmax is the shizz, and the allison is where the party is at.

Alright, what is the best battery for extremely cold climates.

I've got a pair of 850 CCA Duralast gold batteries that have done fine for three years now.

bought my first diesel 1990 7.3 idi..and i love it

I hear that a gallon or so of WMO in a tank with cover up a lot of red dye. Won't help if they break out a test kit but you may could play it off if they're just dipping the tank.

So this bad boy should screw on to my 2wd with no issues, right? I'm all about it for 23 bucks....

For the body-shop pros around here

This is my daily driver truck, I picked it up cheap a few years back and am thinking about getting something else to drive around so I can move this guy to full-project status. Before I dump a bunch of money into this thing, there is this dent in the cab. The previous owner ran the truck into a...

    Introducing MOOSE BOOST!

I was expecting 2500 for the turbo with no kit, so 2200 would be a steal for what you are getting, considering the standard three options go for just shy of 2k new...

    Introducing MOOSE BOOST!

Heath, I've been haunting this site since well before I owned my IDI....and to say that your contributions are valuable is a massive understatement. I encourage you to work out a way to post a write up if at all possible, maybe in a locked thread to minimize the crap; but by all means do not...

Why do you love your IDI?

Some days, I honestly don't know why I love this truck. Then I talk to a buddy with a 6.0 that's eaten two head gaskets, a main bearing, and four injectors...then I remember why, because I'm a tightwad! It won't win a drag race, pull 15K at the speed of light, or ride like a lexus, but it gets...

    Introducing MOOSE BOOST!

Interested to see a kit price...I finally have a good job and some truly disposable income to save. I can quit fixing things with tape and tie wire, get a good core engine to build from the ground up and do all the stuff I've been reading about on here since 2008 or so...good luck and thanks for...

    U-joint & Ball joint tools

I've used the harbor freight one on a couple of trucks and it's stood up to having an impact press out some rusty joints. I just checked and there's a couple of mac brand sets on ebay for 125 or so. I understand liking to have good tools, lord knows I don't need any of the high end stuff I have...

    worth persuing? bad clutch.......

Ours has been a complete pain in my rear....but this is more due to the DSG transmission that we had rebuilt (1 month in shop waiting on parts) only to have it fail 6 months later (another month waiting on parts and fighting with VW over warranty). The car itself gets awesome mileage, rides...
